After unexpectedly being diagnosed with bipolar disorder at age seventeen, Erin Callinan’s life was turned upside down. This new and unwelcomed diagnosis left her drowning in the abyss of mental illness, leading to hospitalizations, developing an eating disorder, and engaging in self-harming behaviors. After learning to reframe her perspective of what living with a mental illness meant, Erin published her book, Beautifully Bipolar: An Inspiring Look into Mental Illness as a means to encourage open conversations about mental health and promote messages of hope and recovery. Participants will gain tools for engaging youth in conversations about mental health, stigma reduction and healthy help seeking behaviors. This workshop will increase participants knowledge of available mental health support services and youth centered resources.
